The Indianapolis Colts claimed injured rookie cornerback Tevin Mitchel off waivers on Thursday and waived safety Robert Smith.

Mitchel was drafted in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins this year and waived Wednesday because of a shoulder injury.

He played in 42 games (29 starts) at Arkansas and finished with four interceptions, 18 passes defensed and 157 tackles.

Smith signed with the Colts on May 5 after going undrafted. He played in 53 games (24 starts) at Clemson and registered 182 tackles, four interceptions and seven passes defensed.
