Colorado hired Mike MacIntyre as its football coach, ESPN.com reported Monday.
MacIntyre replaces Jon Embree, who was fired two weeks ago. Embree went 4-21 in two seasons with the Buffaloes.
MacIntyre turned around the San Jose State program this year. The Spartans went 10-2 and are headed to the Military Bowl. They play Bowling Green on Dec. 27.
San Jose State went 5-1 in the Western Athletic Conference this year.
MacIntyre, 47, took over a 2-10 squad three years ago after serving as Duke’s defensive coordinator.
He has also been a secondary coach with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets and was an assistant at Mississippi for five years.
Colorado went 1-11 this season (1-8 in the Pac-12), the worst mark in the school’s 123-year history.
Embree had three years left on his contract.
