The San Diego Chargers placed kicker Nate Kaeding on injured reserve because of a groin strain, NFL.com reported Monday.
San Diego signed free agent wide receiver Danario Alexander to take Kaeding’s spot on the 53-man roster.
Kaeding last played on Sept. 30 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He strained his right groin in that game. Nick Novak was signed afterward and has handled the kicking duties since then.
Kaeding was seven-for-seven in field goal attempts this season. He played in just one game last year because of a knee injury.
In two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, Alexander had 46 catches for 737 yards with three touchdowns.
