Boston Celtics forward Jared Sullinger recovered quicker than expected from a stress fracture in his left foot and was available to play Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks in Boston.

Sullinger suffered a metatarsal stress fracture in February and the Celtics announced that he would miss the remainder of the regular season.

“Jared was extremely diligent in his rehab, repeatedly expressing his eagerness to help our team reach the postseason,” Celtics vice president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. “He will be available in a limited role this weekend as he works his way back to 100 percent game shape.”

At the time of the injury, Sullinger was leading the Celtics in scoring and rebounding with averages of 14.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Sullinger’s return could bolster Boston in its late push for a playoff spot. The Celtics entered Friday night’s action tied for the eighth spot with the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference.
