The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without guard Iman Shumpert for 12 to 14 weeks after he sustained a wrist injury.

The Cavaliers announced Tuesday that an MRI at Cleveland Clinic on Monday found a ruptured extensor carpi ulanris sheath in Shumpert’s right wrist. Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.

“Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert recently suffered a ruptured Extensor Carpi Ulnaris sheath in his right wrist,” the Cavs said in a statement. “The extent of the injury was confirmed by MRI at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health yesterday by Dr. Thomas Graham and Dr. Richard Parker. Shumpert will have surgery to repair his wrist Wednesday at Cleveland Clinic. His return to play is currently projected to be 12 to 14 weeks.”

Shumpert told reporters on Monday during media day his health was OK and that he worked on ball-handling during the offseason.

The 25-year-old Shumpert averaged 7.2 points in 38 regular-season games with the Cavs in 2015 after he was acquired from the New York Knicks. In the playoffs, Shumpert upped his averages to 9.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20 games during the Cavs’ run to the NBA Finals.

Shumpert has career averages of 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in four seasons with the Knicks and Cavs.
