Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams, the NBA Eastern Conference rookie of the month for November, likely will sit out the team’s Friday road game against the Charlotte Bobcats due to a sore right knee.
Carter-Williams missed practice Thursday, and he remained in Philadelphia to receive treatment when the team traveled to Charlotte, the 76ers announced in a press release.
The news came hours after the rookie told reporters at practice that he would travel to Charlotte and see how his knee felt in Friday’s shoot-around before determining his status.
The injury comes at a bad time, as Carter-Williams recorded a triple-double in his last game, Tuesday in the 76ers’ 126-125, double-overtime win against the Orlando Magic. Carter-Williams finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
In the same game, Orlando guard Victor Oladipo had 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, as he and Carter-Williams became the first rookies in NBA history to record triple-doubles in the same game.
Carter-Williams, 22, is averaging 17.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds through 15 games. He sat out four games in mid-November due to a left foot injury.
