The St. Louis Cardinals activated first baseman Matt Adams from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.
To make room for Adams on the 40-man roster, left-hander Nick Greenwood was designated for assignment.
Adams, 27, has been out since May 27 with a right quad strain that required surgery on May 29. Prior to the injury, Adams was hitting .243 with four home runs, 20 RBIs and five game-winning RBIs. Adams missed 91 games on the DL.
Greenwood had been recalled to St. Louis twice this season, but did not appear in a game. At Memphis, the 27-year-old began the season pitching in relief but started his final 19 games. Overall, he compiled a 13-6 record with a 5.79 ERA in 32 games (22 starts).
