Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington is being investigated by Phoenix Police after being accused of assault by an ex-girlfriend, according to the Arizona Republic.

According to a police source, the woman said she was choked during a domestic dispute.

Washington, 26, the Cardinals’ defensive MVP last season, is already suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Police are seeking to question Washington about the incident. He released a statement to XTRA 910.

“These are serious accusations that we are closely monitoring. Until all the facts are determined, and out of respect for the process, we will decline any further comment at this point.”
