The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Randal Grichuk on the 15-day disabled list Monday and recalled outfielder Tommy Pham from Triple-A Memphis.
Grichuk, who has been playing with a sore foot, suffered a right elbow strain Sunday in a 6-4 loss to the Miami Marlins. He left the game after seven innings and had the elbow examined Monday.
Grichuk, 24, is hitting .284 with 44 RBIs and 15 home runs in 85 games. His 43 extra-base hits rank first among all rookies, and he is third in homers and sixth in RBIs.
Pham, 27, is in his second stint with the Cardinals. He played in 13 games, starting 10, in July and hit his first major-league home run on July 5 vs. San Diego. He hit .182 with four doubles and three RBIs. He is hitting .327 at Memphis, including .354 with 17 RBIs over his last 23 games.
