Cal announced on Thursday, one day before its against Washington, that star wide receiver Keenan Allen will not play against the Huskies on Friday because of a posterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee.
It’s unclear whether Allen will be able to play in any of the Bears’ remaining three regular-season games. Coach Jeff Tedford said in a statement, “Keenan won’t play against Washington. We’ll continue to evaluate him on a weekly basis.”
Allen is Cal’s all-time leader in career receptions with 205, even though he is a junior. He has 61 catches this season, more than twice as many as anyone else on the team, and his 737 receiving yards are 357 yards more than the Bears’ No. 2 receiver. He leads the team in touchdowns with eight, and also ranks 14th in the nation in punt returns, averaging 14.13 yards per return.
Allen sustained the injury in the closing minutes of Saturday’s game against Utah, but no mention of the injury was made until Thursday.
