CHICAGO — Chicago Bulls forward Pau Gasol will miss Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers because of a strained left hamstring.
Gasol, 34, sustained the injury Friday night during Chicago’s 99-96 victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series. His status is day-to-day, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said before Sunday’s game.
Thibodeau declined to reveal whether Taj Gibson or Nikola Mirotic would start at forward in Gasol’s place. Gasol has averaged 15.1 points and 9.9 rebounds in nine playoff games this season.
“We’ve dealt with injuries before,” Thibodeau said. “Next guy, get in there, get the job done. We have guys that are more than capable.”
The Bulls hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
