The Tampa Bay Buccaneers named former Cal coach Jeff Tedford as their offensive coordinator Saturday.
Tedford spent the previous 11 seasons as Cal’s coach, where he was the winningest coach in the school’s history. He worked with former first-round draft picks, quarterbacks Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers, during his tenure.
“We are very fortunate to have Jeff as our offensive coordinator,” newly-hired head coach Lovie Smith said in a statement. “I have a great deal of respect for the job Jeff did at Cal for more than a decade and I believe he will be a great fit for what we are attempting to do in Tampa. Jeff has a successful and proven track record as a teacher and developer of young talent and I know our players, and the organization as a whole, will benefit from his experience.”
Prior to coaching the Golden Bears, Tedford was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon from 1998-2001.
Smith was hired on Thursday to replace Greg Schiano, who was fired on Monday.
The Bucs are expected to name former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier as defensive coordinator.
