Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and the Denver Broncos reached an agreement on a two-year contract that extends through the 2015 season, The Denver Post reported Thursday.

Del Rio, 50, completed his second year with the Broncos, who reached the Super Bowl before losing 43-8 to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.

“Jack did a nice job with our defense,” Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway told The Post. “We had a lot of injuries on that defensive side and Jack did a good job holding that side together. Even in the Super Bowl, our defense kept us in the game in the first half.”

The Denver defense finished the regular season ranked 22nd in points allowed (24.9), seventh in rushing yards allowed (101.6) and 19th in yards allowed per game (356.0). In 2012, the Broncos were ranked second in the NFL in yards allowed.

Del Rio also stepped in as interim coach for four games during the 2013 regular season while coach John Fox underwent heart surgery and the Broncos went 3-1.

Before coming to Denver, Del Rio was the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for nine years.
