Minnesota Vikings first round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater revealed that the team tested him for an irregular heartbeat during a pre-draft visit.
Bridgewater, the former Louisville quarterback, was taken 32nd overall — the last pick in the first round — Thursday night.
“I just had an abnormal heartbeat,” Bridgewater said in a conference call after being selected. “I think it was 1 percent, or one beat, less than the normal beat. So, I came back up to Minnesota, got the physical, got the EKG and everything, got tested and it came back positive.”
Bridgewater said he found out about his condition at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, but does not believe it will present a major problem for him in his NFL career.
“How’s your heart?” Zimmer asked Bridgewater after the Vikings doctors examined him a second time.
Bridgewater said: “Well, they said it was too big.”
If the Vikings had not traded picks with the Seattle Seahawks, Bridgewater likely would have slid to the second round.
