Juan Francisco was traded from the Atlanta Braves to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor-league left-handed pitcher Tom Keeling.

Francisco provides an option at first base and a left-hander off the bench who can also play third base if Aramis Ramirez is out of the lineup. Yuniesky Betancourt, the primary first baseman this season with Corey Hart on the 60-day disabled list but near returning to the club, is batting .221.

The Brewers released veteran infielder Alex Gonzalez, who at 36 had just one home run and a .177 average as a utility infielder.

Keating had 19 strikeouts in 17 innings as a reliever at the Class AA level. The 25-year-old had a 3.18 ERA.
