has been suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing drug use, according to reports Monday.
McKirahan was suspended for violating Major League Baseball’s policy after testing positive for an unidentified performance-enhancing substance.
The 25-year-old McKirahan has a 4.15 ERA in three appearances for the Braves this season. He becomes the third major leaguer this month to be suspended for PEDs. The other two were New York Mets closer Jenrry Mejia and Minnesota Twins starter Ervin Santana.
McKirahan was a Rule 5 pick acquired from the Chicago Cubs by the Miami Marlins. The Braves claimed McKirahan off waivers from the Marlins on April 2.
According to MLB.com, McKirahan revealed to his teammates Sunday that he had tested positive for a banned substance and would have to spend most of the next three months serving a suspension. The report said he apologized and believes the banned substance might have been within a cream he applied to his arm during spring training.
