Braves expected to demote C Bethancourt

The Atlanta Braves are expected to option catcher Christian Bethancourt to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Bethancourt has struggled this season, hitting .208 with one home run and nine RBIs in 29 games.

Bethancourt began the season as the Braves’ starting catcher before being placed in a rotation with catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who is hitting .273 with four home runs and 21 RBIs.
