BOSTON — Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval left Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals with a left foot contusion.

Sandoval, who had gone hitless in two at-bats, was hit on the top of his foot by a pitch from right-hander Stephen Strasburg during the third inning.

Sandoval continued to play but left the game following the fifth inning.

The Red Sox signed Sandoval as a free agent in the offseason. The former San Francisco Giants third baseman inked a five-year, $95-million deal.

Despite batting .324 entering Tuesday’s game, Sandoval had yet to record an extra-base hit.

The 28-year-old is a three-time World Series champion and the 2012 World Series MVP, all coming with the Giants.
