Former Golden State Warriors Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes landed with the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks acquired Bogut from the Warriors, who needed to clear cap space to take on Kevin Durant’s salary in free agency. As another leg of the Durant move, the Warriors renounced their rights to restricted free agent Barnes, who receives a four-year deal from the Mavericks worth more than $90 million.
The deals couldn’t be consummated until Thursday, when the NBA moratorium on transactions was lifted.
Barnes brings scoring punch and versatility to the wing. He’ll play alongside Dirk Nowitzki, who agreed to return to the Mavericks for his 19th season.
The 31-year-old Bogut has averaged double figure rebounds in four of his 11 seasons and played 236 games in four seasons with the Warriors.
Bogut, a former top overall NBA pick, played in 70 games this past season, but was injured in the NBA Finals. He is expected to be at full strength when training camp begins in September.
The Warriors shed Bogut’s $11 million expiring contract and received only draft considerations in return.
In Bogut, the Mavericks get a rim protector who has plenty of playoff experience.
