The Toronto Blue Jays signed former National League All-Star outfielder Domonic Brown to a minor-league contract, the club announced Thursday.
Brown, 28, was signed to a one-year deal and invited to big league spring training.
Brown batted .272 with 27 homers and 83 RBIs in 2013 with the Philadelphia Phillies. But since that All-Star season, his career has gone downhill.
His numbers dropped to .235 with 10 homers and 63 RBIs in 2014. Last season, he opened the campaign on the disabled list due to an Achilles’ tendon injury and struggled upon his return, batting .228 with five homers and 25 RBIs.
Brown will compete for a backup outfield spot with Toronto.
“We’re going to bring him in camp and see what he can do and see what he’s got left,” manager John Gibbons told reporters. “We’re concentrating on adding depth to different positions in the organization, and we’ll see how it all works out.”
