The Chicago Bears reached agreement with Matt Cavanaugh to be their quarterbacks coach, the team announced Friday.
Cavanaugh returns to the Bears after working as their offensive coordinator in 1997 and 1998. The former NFL quarterback spent the past four seasons as quarterbacks coach with the New York Jets.
Prior to his stint with the Jets, Cavanaugh was offensive coordinator in college at Pitt and with the Baltimore Ravens.
Cavanaugh joins the staff of new Bears head coach Marc Trestman, who was hired Wednesday to replaced Lovie Smith. Trestman also has an extensive background working with quarterbacks.
Trestman’s purge of Smith’s remaining staff included former Bears quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, who had worked with Jay Cutler since they were together in Denver.
