Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin told reporters on Tuesday that quarterback Trevor Knight will miss the remainder of the season with a right shoulder injury.
Sumlin, however, didn’t rule out the possibility of Knight playing in a bowl game should his recovery allow.
Knight sustained the injury after being tackled out of bounds during Saturday’s 35-28 loss to Mississippi State. The senior was replaced by backup Jake Hubenak, who went 11 of 17 for 222 yards with two touchdowns and one interception on Saturday.
A graduate transfer from Oklahoma, Knight went 149 of 284 for 1,911 yards with 13 touchdowns against six interceptions in nine games with the Aggies (7-2 overall, 4-2 SEC West). He also rushed for 10 scores and a career-high 583 yards, eclipsing his 2013 total as a freshman (445) for the Sooners.
Hubenak is 23 of 38 for 350 yards with three touchdowns and an interception this season for Texas A&M, which hosts Ole Miss (4-5, 1-4) on Saturday (7:30 p.m., ET). The Aggies wrap up their regular-season schedule with games against Texas-San Antonio and LSU.
