DETROIT – The Tigers’ possible American League Championship Series clinching celebration was put on hold for at least 24 hours Wednesday night when Detroit’s game with the New York Yankees was postponed because of threatening weather.
The Yankees will still send ace CC Sabathia to the mound Thursday to see if they can start clawing their way out of the 0-3 hole they are in. The Tigers will pitch their scheduled starter, Max Scherzer.
Game 4 was scheduled for an 8:07 PM EDT start but never got going due to a large line of bad weather moving through the Detroit area. Light sprinkles came down intermittently but nothing that teams haven’t played through during the regular season.
Then around 9:15 p.m. ET, the game was postponed as more threatening weather moved in. The game was called because Major League Baseball wanted to make sure a nine-inning game had a good chance to be completed.
The rescheduled game is slotted for what would have been the Game 5 (had it been necessary) starting time, 4:07 PM EDT Thursday. If necessary, Game 5 will be played Friday at a time to be announced.
