Center Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers will have a second surgery on his right foot on Tuesday and is expected to miss his second consecutive season, Yahoo Sports reported on Saturday.
The 7-foot, 250-pound Embiid, the No. 3 overall selection of the 2014 NBA draft out of Kansas, missed his rookie season after undergoing surgery in June of 2014 to repair a stress fracture in the foot.
The report said Embiid, 21, is expected to have a bone graft procedure similar to the foot surgery forward Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder had earlier this year.
The 76ers announced in July that Embiid needed a second surgery after a routine CT scan in June revealed the foot had not healed as expected.
If the surgery is successful, Embiid is expected to be ready for training camp before the 2016-17 season.
