49ers sign free agent TE, LB

The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent tight end Kevin Greene and linebacker Chase Thomas after waiving offensive tackle Luke Marquardt and linebacker Morgan Breslin on Tuesday.

Greene was passed over in the NFL Draft earlier this month after playing 37 games for Southern California as a tight end, defensive end and linebacker.

Thomas signed with the New Orleans Saints in April 2013 as an undrafted rookie free agent and was picked up by the Oakland Raiders last August before he was released. He then signed with the Atlanta Falcons for the rest of the season. Thomas went to the Green Bay Packers in January on a futures contract and released on May 12.

In 53 games at Stanford, Thomas had 229 tackles, 50 1/2 tackles for loss, 27 1/2 sacks, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Marquardt signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in May 2013 and spent the 2013 season on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Breslin had signed with the 49ers on May 12.
