Marshall suspended junior safety Brandon Drayton after he was charged with felony strangulation and domestic assault.
Drayton, 22, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Huntington, W.Va., after a university police officer witnessed him assaulting a woman, authorities said.
Drayton allegedly grabbed the woman by the neck and shoulder area and yelled at her. The victim had visible red marks on her neck and chest area, according to the criminal complaint.
He was being held at the Western Regional Jail on $55,000 bond.
Marshall spokesman Jason Corriher said Drayton was suspended from all team-related activities.
He is fourth on the team with 46 tackles this season, including 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
The Thundering Herd (4-3, 2-1 Conference USA) host Western Kentucky (5-2, 4-0) on Saturday.
