It had been a disappointing, roller coaster season for defending national champion LSU.
It started with a 10-point loss in Tiger Stadium to Mississippi State, followed later by a 38-point loss to Alabama and a 37-point loss to Auburn. But, its most recent game was a high point, a come-from-behind win over nationally ranked Florida.
Going into Saturday’s season-ending game against Ole Miss, LSU’s record was 4-5. A loss to the Rebels would make the Tigers the first team to win the national title and have a losing season the next year since 1943 (Ohio State during World War II).
With under two minutes to play, it looked like that would happen, as Ole Miss led, 48-46. But, in a record setting performance, Kayshon Boutte had something to say about that.
The freshman receiver caught a crossing pattern pass from fellow freshman quarterback Max Johnson, then in a cross-the-field, tackle-breaking run, went 45 yards to the end zone, giving LSU the lead. The Tigers won, 53-48, and that yardage allowed Boutte to set the all-time single-game reception yardage record in LSU history.
His game-winning catch is this week’s U.S. Farm Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”
For the game, Boutte had 14 catches for 308 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson threw for 438 yards and the three scores, and ran for 45 yards and two touchdowns.
Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U. S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”
The Catfish Institute, or TCI, was formed in 1986 by catfish farmers and feed manufacturers to raise consumer awareness of the positive qualities of U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish. Since its formation, U.S. per capita consumption has more than doubled.
U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish is a sustainable and environmentally friendly seafood product. The National Audubon Society, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Environmental Defense all recommend U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish as a safe environmental choice. To find out more, visit www.uscatfish.com.
