An era was ending.
Ed Orgeron, who had guided LSU to the national championship just two years earlier, was coaching his last game as the Tigers’ head man.
All of the team wanted to send him out a winner and at the same time become bowl eligible. None wanted that more than quarterback Max Johnson and receiver Jaray Jenkins.
Both had done their part, but with just 20 seconds left in the game, Texas A&M led, 24-20. The Tigers had blown a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and were down to their last chance.
That’s when the quarterback and receiver made their biggest play.
Johnson hit Jenkins with a 28-yard scoring pass down the right sideline, giving LSU a 27-24 win.
For the day, Johnson threw for 308 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jenkins had eight receptions for 169 yards and two scores, including the game winner.
Orgeron will not be coaching the Tigers in the postseason, so his team did send him out a winner.
Jenkins’ second touchdown reception has been chosen as the U.S. Farm Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”
Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U. S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”
The Catfish Institute, or TCI, was formed in 1986 by catfish farmers and feed manufacturers to raise consumer awareness of the positive qualities of U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish. Since its formation, U.S. per capita consumption has more than doubled.
U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish is a sustainable and environmentally friendly seafood product. The National Audubon Society, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Environmental Defense all recommend U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish as a safe environmental choice. To find out more, visit www.uscatfish.com.
