Alabama defensive back Geno Smith was charged with driving under the influence after his second arrest in two years in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Smith was released on $1,000 bond Saturday morning from the Tuscaloosa County jail, according to sheriff’s records.
In August 2013, Smith also was arrested on a DUI charge and suspended by Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban for the start of the season.
Smith’s status with the team was unknown after his latest arrest. Saban was not available for comment after Saturday’s practice.
The senior is expected to compete for a full-time starting job this fall. Last season, Smith started six of 14 games as a junior and finished wtih 56 tackles. He has played in 39 career games in three seasons.
