Running back Michael Dyer, who was dismissed by Auburn and Arkansas State because of off-the-field problems, said he has cleaned up his act and would like another shot at college football rather than enter the upcoming NFL supplemental draft.
Dyer helped Auburn win the national championship as a true freshman, sealing the victory over Oregon in the 2011 BCS national championship game with a memorable run.
However, incidents involving drugs and weapons led to his departure from both schools.
“I want a chance to show people my character is better than it was in the past,” the 22-year-old Dyer on Monday, adding that he earned a two-year degree at Arkansas Baptist and stayed out of trouble. “I want to clear my name. I understand the reasons I am in this situation. I placed myself here. I take responsibility.
“I understand (schools’) reasoning of not taking me. It’s been very, very hard. But I’m not the same person I was. I’ve changed. I’ve grown up.”
Dyer, who has two years of eligibility remaining, thought TCU or Louisville might give him a chance, but those schools apparently decided he was too much of a risk. No other BCS conference programs have approached him.
