Louisiana Tech comes in No. 20 in this week’s BCS Standings and with a legitimate chance at a BCS bowl game thanks to Syracuse’s upset of Louisville last week.

But the Bulldogs (9-1, 4-0 WAC) need to win their final two games in convincing fashion starting with Saturday afternoon’s conference title showdown with Utah State (8-2, 4-0).

Tech has put up some eye-popping offensive stats this season but the defense has struggled badly at times. The Bulldogs needed to recover a late onside kick last week to seal a wild 62-55 win over FBS newcomer Texas State.

The Bulldogs, whose only loss was a 59-57 defeat to Texas A&M, know they have to play a complete game to defeat the visiting Aggies, who have had two weeks to prepare and were a missed 37-yard field goal away from upsetting Wisconsin in Madison earlier this year.

“Really, for the last month, we have been happy to win, but in a lot of ways disappointed we did not play as well as we could of,” Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes said. “That is a sign of a good football team.”

“We have not played a complete game,” quarterback Colby Cameron added. “I think once the offense, defense and special teams all get on the same page, I think we will have a real explosive game.”

And no better week than this one for that to happen for the Bulldogs.
