The allegations of hazing within the Northwestern University football program rocked the country last month, leading to the suspension, and eventual firing of long-time head coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Since Fitzgerald’s termination on July 10, little new information has been shared, until recently, when the attorneys for the accusers shared an informational page and statement with Lindy’s.
The attorneys – Ben Crump and the firm Levin & Perconti – outlined the numerous different ways that hazing allegedly occurred, including sexual acts and racial discrimination.
“This situation has highlighted the importance of holding those in power accountable for the safety and well-being of all individuals under their jurisdiction,” the statement reads. “The university’s responsibility extends beyond providing education to ensuring an environment free from harassment and abuse.”
According to Levin & Perconti, some players involved in the lawsuit have suffered “deep mental and emotional distress” and have suffered to the point of suicidal thoughts, which “underlines the gravity of the situation.”
At the time of publication, the alleged incidents are just allegations. Northwestern’s inquiry that led to the termination of Fitzgerald is not available for the public to see.
