Two days after suffering a mild concussion, Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty said he was feeling better and planned on playing when the No. 5 Bears face No. 9 Kansas State on Saturday.

“I feel great,” Petty told the San Antonio Express-News on Monday. “I woke up this morning, happy to be alive and breathing. You can’t ask for more than that.”

Petty, who was knocked out Saturday’s 48-46 win over Texas Tech midway through the third quarter, said he had not been tested for a concussion by team doctors, but was hopeful of returning for practice later this week.

He also admitted to still having headaches.

“(The headache) is kind of off and on, and it’s starting to get shorter on and longer off,” Petty said. “And then when it is hurting a little bit, it’s a lot lighter than it used to be.”

Baylor didn’t practice Monday. The winner between the Bears and Wildcats is guaranteed at least a share of the Big 12 title. If No. 4 TCU loses earlier Saturday to last-place Iowa State, they would be playing for the outright title.

Petty has thrown 25 touchdowns this season and almost 2,900 yards.
