Kansas State senior quarterback Skylar Thompson missed Saturday’s contest at TCU due to an injury to his throwing shoulder.
The right-handed Thompson didn’t travel with the team to Fort Worth, Texas. He was injured in the second quarter of last week’s victory against Texas Tech.
True freshman Will Howard is the starter against the Horned Frogs. Howard completed 7 of 12 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown after replacing Thompson last week.
Howard is the first true freshman quarterback to start for the Wildcats since Josh Freeman in 2006.
Thompson (5,021 passing, 1,083 rushing) is one of two players in K-State history to pass for over 5,000 career yards and rush for more than 1,000. The other is Ell Roberson, who passed for 5,099 and rushed for 2,818 from 2000-03.
Thompson has passed for 626 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in 64 attempts this season. He also rushed for three scores.
