Brendon Kay, who will be Cincinnati’s starting quarterback in its bowl game, has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA because of injuries that caused him to miss the 2008 and 2011 seasons, the school announced Monday.

Kay, who is currently working toward a master’s degree in business administration, had played in only six games prior to this season.

However, he became the Bearcats’ starter this season when Munchie Legaux was benched.

Kay started the final four regular-season games, and the Bearcats are 3-1 in those games. He’s completed 61.9 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 230 yards.

He is scheduled to start in the Belk Bowl against Duke.
