Stanford wide receiver/kick returner Ty Montgomery will sit out the regular-season finale against No. 9 UCLA on Friday because of a shoulder injury.

Montgomery sprained his right shoulder during last week’s 38-17 win over Cal when he was tackled after a 14-yard reception. He had shoulder surgery after last season.

Montgomery is the Cardinal’s leading receiver this season with 61 catches for 604 yards and three touchdowns and is one of the nation’s top special teams players with two punt returns for touchdowns this season.

The All-American kick returner also ranks third in the Pac-12 with a 25.2-yard kickoff return average and has rushed for an additional 144 yards on 23 carries.

Backup receivers Michael Rector, Jeff Trojan and Francis Owusu are expected to step in for Montgomery this week against the Bruins.

Stanford coach David Shaw is hopeful that Montgomery could return for a bowl game.
