Running back Todd Gurley is back at practice, his four-game NCAA-levied suspension from the Georgia Bulldogs complete, but he won’t be available for comment until coach Mark Richt decides it’s time.
The junior is returning from a four-game NCAA suspension for taking $3,000 for autographed memorabilia and other items in a two-year span.
Richt is locking out media from the majority of this week’s practices with a key game at Auburn ahead on Saturday.
Gurley isn’t the onlly player not available. Richt is making players off limits after practice instead of usual access for media Monday and Wednesday. Select players could be available Tuesday, but Gurley would not be among them.
Richt’s only availability this week will be Tuesday’s mandatory press conference and Wednesday after practice.
Nick Chubb has performed well in Gurley’s absence, but Gurley was listed as the starter in the official depth chart released by the team Monday.
“Obviously, both those guys will play and we’ll see how Sony (Michel) is doing,” Richt said. “I think he came out of the game pretty good, too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than just Nick and Todd in the ballgame at that running back position. Early in the year we did a good job of giving guys reps and hopefully we can continue to do that.”
