Swingman Thabo Sefolosha officially joined the Hawks on Tuesday when Atlanta completed a sign-and-trade deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Atlanta sent Oklahoma City the draft rights to power forward Sofoklis Schortsanitis, while the Hawks received Sefolosha and the draft rights to Giorgos Printezis.
Sefolosha and the Hawks previously reached agreement on a three-year, $12 million contract, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Thabo is an unselfish, competitive and playoff-tested player, and does many things well on both sides of the ball,” Hawks general manager Danny Ferry said in a statement released by the team. “He also fills a need, giving us more size and depth at the wing position. He’s been a part of winning programs and will fit our culture well.”
Sefolosha, 30, started 61 games last season for the Oklahoma City Thunder and averaged 6.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals.
In eight NBA seasons with the Chicago Bulls and the Thunder, the 6-foot-7 Sefolosha averages 5.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 551 games. He has also played in 78 playoff games, averaging 4.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals.
Schortsanitis, 29, was born in Cameroon, and he currently plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. The Los Angeles Clippers selected him in the second round of the 2003 draft, and his rights were traded to Atlanta in 2012.
Printezis, 29, is currently playing for Olympiacos Piraeus in his native Greece. He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2007 draft, and his rights subsequently were traded to the Toronto Raptors, the Dallas Mavericks, the New York Knicks, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Thunder and now the Hawks.
