Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin told radio station KJR-AM earlier this week that he and the team are working on a long-term contract.
“It’s going to take some time,” Baldwin said Wednesday. “It’s just the process of going through the negotiations, that’s just what it is. … It’s still very early in the stages of the conversation and I don’t know how long it’s going to take. But hopefully we can get something done soon.”
Previously, the Seahawks placed a second-round tender of $2.18 million on Doug Baldwin for this season to prevent him from becoming a free agent.
Baldwin said he will sign the tender and play out this season if he and the Seahawks cannot come to terms on a multi-year deal.
“If we are unable to reach an agreement I will sign the tender, play that out, and then be an unrestricted free agent,” he said. “I’m going to play this season whether it’s on the tender or under an extension.”
In 2013, Baldwin made 50 catches for 778 yards with five touchdowns.
