Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston was reportedly issued a misdemeanor citation Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting crab legs from a Publix supermarket.
Winston was not arrested or cited by Tallahassee Police Department, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
“In response to recent requests: TPD has NOT had any contact with Jameis Winston regarding an alleged recent citation,” the department said on its Twitter account.
A 2 p.m. ET Tuesday news conference in Leon County was scheduled regarding the matter.
A source told SB Nation that Winston will be fined $30, will be required to do community service and will be suspended from the baseball team. He is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 16 appearances this spring.
Winston has had previous run-ins with the law, but no arrests.
In December, the state attorney in Florida decided not charge Winston after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at an off-campus apartment on Dec. 7, 2012.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has since opened an investigation into FSU’s handling of the allegations against Winston and potential Title IX violations by the university.
Winston tossed the winning touchdown in the National Championship game over Auburn in the closing seconds. On the season, he passed for 4,057 yards and 40 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
