New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis, who has been out for a week with right calf tightness, is in a walking boot, according to the Bergen County (N.J.) Record.
Davis is competing for the starting first baseman’s job. Last year, he batted just .205 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in 317 at-bats. He was shut down at the end of August when he strained his right oblique.
Lucas Duda is also in the running for the starting job. He was recently bothered by hamstring issues.
