Chiefs cut LB James, TE Jones

Cutting ties with two players who had minor roles with the team last season, the Kansas City Chiefs released linebacker Robert James and tight end Dominique Jones on Thursday.

James appeared in one game early last season with the Baltimore Ravens, then was out of the NFL until Dec. 31, when he signed a free agent deal with the Chiefs. He appeared in Kansas City’s 45-44 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in a wild-card playoff game.

James, 30, previously saw action with the Atlanta Falcons in 2009 (one game), 2010 (one game) and 2012 (16 games). He compiled 11 tackles, all in 2011. He was the Falcons’ fifth-round draft pick in 2008 out of Arizona State.

Jones, 26, played in two games for Kansas City last year, but he had no receptions before he landed on the non-football injury list.

The previous two seasons with the Colts, he appeared in a total of 10 games, making three starts, and he compiled three catches for 42 yards. Jones was an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd University before he signed with Indianapolis in April 2012.
