Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gattis was one of 19 players who signed one-year contracts for the 2014 season, the team announced Tuesday.
Also included in the group are right-handed pitchers David Carpenter, Cory Gearrin, David Hale, Juan Jaime, Aaron Northcraft, Wirfin Obispo and Anthony Varvaro; left-handed pitchers Luis Avilan, Ryan Buchter, Carlos Perez and Alex Wood; infielders Ernesto Mejia, Tyler Pastornicky and Elmer Reyes; outfielders Jose Constanza, Todd Cunningham and Joey Terdoslavich; and catching prospect Christian Bethancourt.
Gattis is expected to take over starting catcher duties from former National League All-Star Brian McCann, who signed a five-year contract with the New York Yankees in December.
Gattis led all rookies with 65 RBIs and ranked second with 21 homers in 2013.
Fantasy Update: Plain and simple, Gattis can flat-out hit. And he can be had for a good price. Big risk-reward-type player who offers great value at the catcher position.
