The Washington Nationals and right-handed reliever Tyler Clippard avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.875 million contract on Monday, according to CBS Sports.
Clippard asked for $6.35 million and the Nationals countered with $4.45 million when the two sides previously exchanged arbitration figures.
Clippard, the Nationals’ set-up man, went 6-3 with a 2.41 ERA in 71 innings last year. He struck out 73 and walked 23. He had 32 saves in 2012 but none in 2013.
