The Baltimore Orioles and All-Star catcher Matt Wieters avoided arbitration by settling on a one-year, $7.7 million contract, according to CBSSports.com.

The two sides reached the agreement after Wieters asked for $8.75 million and the Orioles offered $6.5 million during an exchange of arbitration in January.

Wieters, 27, batted .235 with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs in 148 games last season.
