The New York Mets avoided arbitration with Ike Davis after the first baseman agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million contract for 2014, according to the New York Post.

Davis, whose salary was $3.125 million last year, batted .205 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in 103 games during the 2013 season.

The 26-year-old Davis was mentioned in trade discussions during the winter with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Baltimore Orioles. He is expected to compete in spring training with Lucas Duda for the Mets’ starting first-base job.
