Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said wide receiver Percy Harvin was not cleared to practice Thursday as the team prepared for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Harvin is going through the league’s concussion protocol and it is unclear if he will be ready this week.
Harvin continues to recover from a concussion he suffered during last weekend’s 23-15 playoff victory over the New Orleans Saints.
Harvin tried to make a leaping catch in the end zone late in the first half Saturday before falling backward and hitting his head on the turf.
Harvin had major hip surgery on Aug. 1 to repair a torn labrum and was playing in only his second game of the season and his first since Nov. 17 against Minnesota.
“He makes an impact just by being on the roster,” Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer of Harvin on Thursday. “We all know he’s a dangerous player — he’s explosive, he’s fast and he’s quick. With him on the field, that’s definitely something they have to scout for.
“Without him, we’d miss him obviously, but I think we’re fine without him. Obviously we’d love to have him on the field, he gives us a better chance to win, but the show must go on.”
Carroll also said that starting linebacker K.J. Wright, who has been out since suffering a broken foot against the 49ers on Dec. 8 in San Francisco, may be ready to play Sunday.
“Today will be a big day for him,” Carroll said before practice. “It looked like there will be no problems, but we’ll wait and see.”
Carroll said that receiver Doug Baldwin would be the “next man up” on kickoff returns if Harvin is out.
