The Cleveland Indians signed outfielder Jeff Francoeur to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to the Indians’ spring training camp, the team announced Monday.
Francoeur, who turns 30 on Wednesday, has a career Major League batting average of .263. He played for the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals in 2013, hitting.204 with three homers in 81 games for the two teams combined.
The Indians also agreed to a minor-league contract with 37-year-old reliever Scott Atchison, who spent last season with the Mets. Atchison will also be invited to the Indians’ spring training camp, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He went 3-3 with a 4.37 earned-run average in 45 1/3 innings last season.
