Halladay to announce retirement

ORLANDO, Fla. — Roy Halladay, who won 203 games in his 16-year career, will announce his retirement Monday afternoon, according to multiple sources.

Halladay is expected to sign a one-day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays during a 12:30 p.m. press conference at baseball’s Winter Meetings at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. The right-hander spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Blue Jays from 1998-2009 then played four years with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Halladay, 36, underwent shoulder surgery this past season and went just 4-5 with a 6.82 ERA in 13 starts. He finishes his career with a 203-105 record and a 3.38 ERA.

Halladay won a Cy Young Award in both leagues, in the American League with the Blue Jays in 2003 and in the National League with the Phillies in 2010. He was also selected to eight All-Star Games.
