Injured Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez might never play another game for the Cornhuskers.
Martinez, a senior, has missed the past two games and five of the past six with a variety of injuries, and an injury to Martinez’s foot is the current problem that may not allow him to return this season.
When coach Bo Pelini was asked on Monday whether Martinez would play again this season, he said, according to the Detroit Free Press, “I don’t know if the chances are real good.”
In fact, ESPN’s Joe Schad reported that Martinez might need six to eight months to recover from the injury located between Martinez’s second and third toes.
Martinez has been the Nebraska starter since his freshman year and he holds school records for career total offense, passing yards and touchdown passes.
Redshirt freshman Tommy Armstrong Jr. has started five games in Martinez’s place and is expected to start Saturday’s pivotal game against No. 16 Michigan State (8-1, 5-0 in the Big Ten). Nebraska is 7-2 overall, 4-1 in the conference.
